Excellent Golf Tips That Will Improve Your Game

By Julie Higgins

The sport of golf has been popular for well over 500 years. While golf has evolved from its most basic setup, it is nonetheless touted as a challenging, enjoyable game. Keep reading for some interesting insight into how to better your golf game.

Before purchasing used golf clubs, check the condition of the club heads. Golf clubs with a large amount of wear from heavy use will show a shiny spot where the ball has come in contact with the club. This means the club will not make good contact with the ball as it should.

Knowing how exactly to keep score is a good idea for golf. This is because your player ranking is based on your score. Scoring is pretty simple, for the most part; just add one point for each stroke you take and add them up to get your hole score. The less strokes it takes to get the ball in the hole, the better your score.

Make sure you go ahead and ask for a professional opinion when you are thinking about what kind of clubs you want to purchase. This is something you should know because a professional will be able to aid you in club selection and will know what types have been created lately.

If you are investing in an expensive new golf club, having it custom-fitted may be a good choice. Every golfer is different in body structure, height and weight, and a club that will work for one doesn't necessarily mean it will work for another. Getting the perfect club for you is half of the battle, the rest is just learning to use it properly!

A number of practice tools exist, all of which can help you improve your golf swing and gain an edge in competition. Practicing your swing will benefit all aspects of your game, so it's a good activity to focus on.

Consider stepping into the swing if you find that you are having trouble adjusting your weight during your downswing. You can gain a better understanding of how it should feel to transfer your weight throughout the swing if you start by slightly lifting your foot that is forward when you carry out your backswing and lowering the foot throughout the forward swing.

If you are short on practice time, concentrate on your short game. Concentrate on your putting and chipping abilities. If you practice it will be noticed in the end when your skills show on the golf course. When you have more time, fit in some wedge practice, seven-iron practice and practice your short-range wedge shots.

If you play golf on wet grass, do not wear golf shoes that are similar to a sneaker in style. Though some waterproofed models are available, most sneaker-style shoes will soak through during a walk through wet turf.

While putting, use your left hand to guide the ball by making sure it is slightly in front of the ball. If you can keep your hands in this position through the putt, it increases your chances for a smooth roll every time. You will then be able to hold the position of your golf club and stop the ball from going off the front of the club.

It's easy to learn, as the rules are very simple, and playing golf will improve both your body and mind. Now that you've read the above tips, you shouldn't have any problem playing your first round of golf, so why not do it today?
