It's easy to fall back on what you know when it comes to holiday destinations. Skiing in Europe is great, and as a result it can be easy to get fixated on it for all of your skiing adventures. But there's a whole world of resorts out there, some of them offering terrain that's absolutely stunning for any skiing enthusiast. And with the added pleasure of discovering new places and new culture, it's definitely worth thinking about going further afield for your skiing fix.
Canadian ski resorts really do take the breath away. There's something about the scenery here that's like no other, and the sense of the wilderness is still rich is this northern country. Whistler in British Columbia makes really good use of the charms of the Canadian peaks in order to give you haunting, and varied slopes. You might just spot the odd elk making its way around the resort too.
For a wonder inside the United States, it's worth checking out Vail in Colarado. This area covers a huge range of slopes, with over five thousand acres of skiable terrain to enjoy. You can also partake in some quad biking and mountain climbing should the fancy take you. If you want a something with a more old-world charm about it, then the skiing in Vermont, particularly around the Stowe resorts, is really great too.
You might not think of Japan straight away when you're considering skiing locations, but there are actually loads to go at. The Niseko resort is one of the best, with six areas to discover, really good quality snow in the peak seasons, and staff who couldn't do more to please. The culture really makes the resort.
But maybe all of this is still too tame for you? If you're someone that wants to feel like more of a pathfinder than a follower, head to Gulmarg in India. The slopes here are practically empty, which considering that it costs a quarter of the price of European options, has the Himalayas as its base, and has been a skiing resort for over a hundred years, seems quite ridiculous.
