Ray Ban

By Abigail Webb

Finding a range of sunglasses that can be tailored to meet the needs of an individual can be difficult and it can be even harder to create one. Each person has a completely different taste in style, shape, colour and decorations, so trying to create a range of sunglasses to suit the wider mass market can often be quite a challenge.

In tacking this challenge, Ray Ban have introduced a range of sunglasses with interchangeable lenses to suit a more modern and independent market. The first styles to see these interchangeable lenses are the Aviator and Caravan ranges, but Ray Ban hopes that they will be introduced across further ranges in the near future.

There are three main lenses available - the classic lens, polarised lens and gradient lens. The classic lens is a fairly generic lens, a basic colour which provides all the high levels of sun protection that you have come to associate with the Ray Ban brand. The polarised lens fights glare and improves vision to give a high level of performance even in areas where there is difficult light. The gradient lens features dark to light tinting and is the most flexible of the three, easily able to adapt to changing light conditions.

Although the lenses are very different, they each uphold the strong levels of sun protection that the Ray Ban brand are well-known for. Featuring a wide range of protection, including blocking the wearer's eyes from UVA, UVB and blue light rays, the gradient level of the glasses also allows the wearer's eyes to adjust easily to surrounding light conditions and reduces strain.

To change the lenses you can simply slide one lens out of the frame and the next one in. The ease at which this can happen helps to prevent breakage as you are not forced to apply pressure when removing or inserting the lenses.
