Bike Road Safety Skills

By Nia Lawrence

When you are riding your bike, whether it is in a motocross competition with your Nitro Circus on or simply in the street, you need to make certain that you are always prioritizing your safety. It is not enough that you wear the proper helmet, gloves, and boots. You need to make certain that you also develop some bike-riding safety practices to keep you safe on your bike. The following are some tips that can be useful for you whether you are out on a highway or on a racetrack.

If you want to keep your body safe from injuries, you need to make certain that you are aware of the conditions on the road. Awareness is one of the most important skills you need to develop when you are riding your bike. Just like Metzger riders, you need to scan the road ahead of you for any sign of traffic or accidents. Take note of the condition of the road as well. Be prepared at all times to avoid potholes, loose sand or gravel, and spilled liquids. These kinds of things can easily cause you to lose control of your motorbike, so you must always have an eye out for them.

Likewise, it is important that you have both defensive and aggressive motorbike riding skills. The key for these skills or tactics is in knowing when to use them on the road. While speeding down the main avenue of your city can cause accidents, being too slow on the road can put you at the mercy of other drivers as well.

When you ride your bike defensively, this means that you are always aware of the free spaces on the road. This also means that you maintain your position in these open areas within the road. By doing this, you give yourself enough space to maneuver in case other drivers or vehicles make errors while driving. Likewise, riding defensively means that you are aware enough to predict the way traffic moves around you, and that you make precautions before any accidents or errors happen.

On the other hand, riding aggressively means that you use your speed and maneuverability to control the road traffic situation. You take the lead in terms of changing lanes and letting other vehicles know your presence. This could even mean that you ride your bike near other driver's windows so that they know you are there. It is important that you use these kinds of skills in balance with each other.
