How Can Women Get Started Playing Golf?

By Donnell Yunan

It's human nature to want to improve once youve begun playing a sport. The sad reality is that many will try without success to improve their posture, swing and anything else just to see lower scores that never appear. Most of these players will give up after being frustrated. This doesn't have to be you, though, because if you follow the advice in this article your game will start improving right away.

When you make your first foray into golfing, the first thing you probably want to do is get a set of clubs. Don't dive right in with a huge investment in golf clubs though; it is better to rent clubs until you're sure golf will even be interesting to you. However, there will come a point when you do need to get your own clubs and it is usually worth getting your clubs professionally fitted. Since women are shorter than men and will, as a result, need shorter clubs, this is especially important for them. Additionally, women generally prefer lighter clubs, such as those made of graphite and they tend to require a grip that isn't too thick.

Getting your clubs personally fit means that all these things and more will be considered in creating a set of clubs that is ideally suited to enhance your golf game.

Get out ahead of the class as a beginner by taking lessons from a golf pro.

You must learn to control your reactions and emotions if you want to be a great golfer. Women tend to put great importance on feelings, whereas men do not. The problem with many women is that they can't let go of one bad shot and often tend to make several more in a row as a result. What happens is that they rush right into the next swing and fail to focus which results in an even worse shot than before.

The key in these situations is to refocus, practice a little deep breathing, and keep your mind on the task at hand. There is no one who plays the game of golf that doesn't make mistakes; learning to deal with those mistakes is what makes some golfers great. Your job now is to remain calm and focused on where the ball is and where you want it to be. Learn to leave the past where it belongs and your game will see significant improvement.

As you can see, it takes a lot of things to become a good golfer. However, the good news from all of this is that everyone is capable of improving their golf game and make the professionals very uncomfortable. All that you need is a little dedication, some hard work and persistence and you will soon be on top.
