The Greatest Washington Wizards Ever

The Washington Wizards have won one NBA title, which was in 1978. The team was founded in 1961 and have went through 5 name changes before becoming the Washington Wizards in 1997. Players of prominent ability to have played for this franchise are Gus Johnson, Walt Bellamy, Earl Monroe, Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld. The greatest player of All-time to play for the Washing ton Wizards are Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes and Gus Johnson.

No. 3: Gus Johnson (1963 "1972)

Gus Johnson was named to the All-Star team on five occasions, the All-Defensive team on 2 occasions and was a 4 time All-NBA selection. Johnson led the franchise to their first NBA finals in 1971. He featured a combination of speed and jumping ability, which made him a superb open-court player and physical defender. Johnson could have lined up against any player on the floor, as he had the skills to play against different types of players and still remain effective.

No. 2: Elvin Hayes (1972 "1981)

Elvin Hayes has a pretty long list of accomplishments with this organization. He is a 8 time NBA All-Star, six time All-NBA selection and 2 time All-Defensive team selection. Hayes is the organization's all-time leader in points, offensive and defensive rebounds, and field goals made and tried, free throws made and attempted and blocks. In his first season, Hayes led the league with 17 rebounds and 28 points per game. Elvin Hayes carried this franchise to the NBA Finals in 1975, 1978 and 1979. No. 1: Wes Unseld (1968 "1981)

Wes Unseld was drafted by the then Baltimore Bullets in 1968. Unsel was named the Rookie of the Year and the league MVP in1969. He would later go on to win the Finals MVP in 1978. Unseld led his team to their only championship over the Seattle Supersonics in 1978. Unseld can be characterized with determination and overwhelming strength. He played 984 games with the then Bullets, averaging over 10 points, 4 assists and 14 rebounds per game. Unseld was a 5 time NBA All-Star and one time All-NBA selection. There is not any player who anyone can name who was better at setting a screen than Wes Unseld. Unseld became the defensive core of the team in his career with the Bullets.

Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes and Gus Johnson were all top notch players during their own times for the franchise. According to statistics both Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes had some awesome numbers with the organisation. Both were a member of the Championship winning team, but Unseld's will to win is what gives him the edge in earning the title as the best Washington Wizard of All-time.
