The Tropical Island Barbados Voted Top Top Party Destination

By Axel Tours

When it is time to escape from the stress and complications of daily life, the West Indian island of Barbados is a superb destination. Although it is only 166 square miles in area, this tiny spot of land on the edge of the Caribbean plays host each year to thousands of visitors who come for the sparkling beaches, tropical ambiance, and romance. Today, Barbados is also one of the worlds top party destinations.

The first European visitors here were Spanish and Portuguese but the British were the first to colonize the Island. It was the Portuguese explorer, Pedro A Campos who named the Island Barbados after the Bearded fig tree. That was in 1536, In 1625 England made a formal claim, and today this island is home to nearly 285,000 full-time residents. Tourism and agriculture drive the island economy today, and this nation has a well-developed financial sector, with a relatively high standard of living.

The Caribbean is know as the birthplace of rum and the rum distillers in Barbados are considered to be the best. Rum is a favorite social drink the world over and rum punch in its many forms, planters punch, rum cocktails, rum sizzle and banana or lime daiquiris are popular at any party or just siting at the bar or on the waterfront.

Cocktail time is always a favourite part of the day, and visitors and locals will sit on the beach watching the sun set in a pink and golden glow that matches the rum punch in their hand. On a good day you can see the green flash as the sun dissolves into the sea. There are many island attractions to be explored. There are nature preserves and island cave formations, as well as world-class snorkeling and diving for water lovers.

When the sun goes down it is time to get a little wild. Party night in Barbados is almost every night, and the celebrations sometimes continue into the next day on the beach. Early slaves brought with them the cultural tradition of celebrating with song and dance, and that spirit still permeates the culture today, with music and live entertainment presented in a variety of local venues.

While some visitors may wish to indulge in forms of relaxation stressing peace and tranquility, others cannot wait to spend a little time and money in the hopping clubs and bars that feature dancing, food, entertainment, and of course, music. Some opt to make areas like the St. Lawrence Gap in Christchurch parish their party headquarters, because it is central to restaurants, clubs, and good hotels, like the BaywatchResorts group, which prides itself on offering good value with no compromise on service. In Barbados the party does not end with the night. There are fun cruises and nature trips where good food and music are part of the fun. At Mullins beach bar, in St. James, music, good food and dancing go on all day. Some of the top entertainers like Bryan Adams have preformed here at the Harbour lights night club where dancing on the sand of Carisle bay is treat for your feet!.

The natural cycle of growth and harvest has given rise to seasonal Barbados celebrations. The biggest is called the Crop Over Festival, which marks a successful sugar cane harvest. The fun lasts for over a month, and includes entertainment and food, as well as music. The Jazz Festival takes place in January, and for reggae lovers the Reggae Festival during April is a major attraction.

Understandably, all these good times can lead to romance, or perhaps something a little more serious. For those wanting to tie the knot, this island encourages weddings and honeymoons, and has liberal residency and waiting-period regulations. From romance to rum, being one of the worlds top party destinations practically guarantees that any visitor will have a chance to truly relax, and shed several layers of accumulated stress in a beautiful tropical setting.
