Trying your hand at fishing in Fuerteventura

By Irving Hardman

Fuerteventura is the second largest island of the very popular Canaries and is second only to Tenerife. The island lies off the coast of Africa and so obviously it has a very hot climate for the entire year. Fuerteventura is a very popular island with people of all ages because of the huge variation of different things to do. As well as the many things to do Fuerteventura is also a very beautiful island and visitors very much enjoy exploring it in the glorious sunshine.

Fuerteventura is very popular with people who enjoy fishing because it has different types of fishing as well as many types of fish. The island also makes a fantastic location for fishing as there are numerous places to do it. There is nothing better for someone who enjoys fishing than sitting beside the water in the wonderful sunshine with a cold drink and just waiting for a fish to bite.

The most popular type of fishing for people to try in Fuerteventura is big game fishing or deep sea fishing. All of the tour operators are catch and release and the area off the coast of Fuerteventura is the perfect environment for large fish like marlin and swordfish mainly because of the warm temperature. People can spend days doing deep sea fishing off the island's coast especially after they have first received the instruction and guidance which the operators provide.

There are a vast number of different types of fish which people can catch and they vary from the very small to very large fish like the hammerhead shark. As well as different types of shark people also commonly catch barracuda, octopus, wahoo and sting rays often well in excess of 20 pounds. Catching such large fish is great fun and can get very competitive.

Obviously some people don't like spending long periods of time on boats and so shore fishing might be the better option. The same sorts of fish can be caught from the shore but they are usually much smaller. That isn't to say that nobody ever catches any monsters fishing off some rocks.
