The Cleveland Browns were established in 1946. They joined the NFL in 1950 and won the NFL Championship in their first season. However after the official merger of the NFL and AFL in 1970, the Browns managed only marginal success and the franchise is one of four never to have made it to the Super Bowl. Despite the lack of success, as well as a brief period when the team did not exist in the 1990s, the fans of the Cleveland Browns have remained very loyal. The best players drafted by the Cleveland Browns are Otto Graham, Ozzie Newsome and Jim Brown. Be sure to check our latest NFL mock draft to see who might be the next great draft pick for this franchise.
No. 3: Otto Graham, QB, (1996 - 2007)
The best quarterback the Browns have seen to date started playing for the team in 1946, having been drafted 4th in the 1944 NFL draft. He was a three-time champion before the official merger in 1970 and the Super Bowl was introduced, and a four-time champion in the AAFC prior to joining the NFL in 1950. No. 2: Ozzie Newsome, TE, (1978 - 1990)
Most experts regard Newsome as the greatest tight end in NFL history. He was selected by the Browns with the 23rd overall pick in the 1978 NFL draft. "The Wizard of Oz" was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in his rookie season, was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999. He finished his career with 662 catches, 7,980 receiving yards and 47 touchdowns.
No. 1: Jim Brown, RB, FB, (1957 - 1965)
Jim Brown is easily regarded as the greatest player to ever represent the Cleveland Browns. Some will go even further and state he is the greatest rusher of all-time and even the greatest NFL player to ever play the game. Yes, he was that good. He was drafted in 1957, going 6th overall in the draft. The Hall of Famer of 1971 totaled 12,312 yards on the ground, 106 trips to the end zone and 2,499 receiving yards for 20 touchdown passes in his career.
