Camping Tips Every Camper Needs To Follow

By Roxane J. Talisen

Camping can be great fun, but it really isn't something you just want to do on a whim. It will work out much better if you plan a camping trip and plan it well. The following article outlines important things you should consider before heading out for that weekend getting in touch with nature.

Purchase a quality tent. It can be tempting to score a good deal on a tent, but you want to find something that can hold both you, your family members and your belongings. Try visiting a store that specializes in outdoor gear. They tend to have well-made products that will last for a while.

Check your tires before you go camping. You want to ensure that nothing stands in the way of you having a fun camping experience. It's always a good thing to ensure that you don't get a flat tire when you go off road towards your camping adventure and have fun times.

Before you bring your dog along for a camping trip, get him used to the idea with a little practice run in the back yard. Pitch the tent in an already familiar area, and let him sleep or play in it for a while. Bringing a dog can really add to the fun of camping, so long as the animal has been adequately prepared for the event.

To increase your sleeping experience while camping, bring a pad along that you can place under your sleeping bag. This pad acts as a barrier between you and the hard ground where twigs and tree knots may cause strange sleeping conditions. If a pad isn't handy, bring a few extra blankets that you can fold over on themselves to create some cushion.

Keep bears away by properly storing your food and disposing of your waste. When you leave food out or in your tent or shelter, nearby bears may destroy your site to find it. Keep it safe and way from your camp. Try placing it in a high place like on a tall tree branch or on a rope.

You will need to keep your items as dry as possible if it starts raining while you are camping. Be sure to pack enough plastic bags to store your items. Ziploc bags can be used to store smaller items, like toiletries, while larger items can be stores in garbage bags.

Does your camping canteen have a weird smell? Put a few teaspoons of baking soda in your musty canteen with some water. Put the lid on and swish it around. Let it sit for about an hour and then pour the mixture out. Rinse the canteen with fresh water and it will be as good as new.

While camping, remember that your food is more likely to attract animals than anything else. Not only should you store your food in safe locations, but you should avoid dumping bacon grease, vegetable peelings or other food waste anywhere near your campsite. These morsels can not only attract raccoons, skunks and bears, but ants and bees, too.

Did you just finish an extended camping trip and what something nice and greasy to eat from the local burger shop? While it may taste delicious, you should probably ease back into fast food or else your stomach may not be too happy with you. Try to stick with healthier foods for a couple of days at least.

Camping is a special time for anyone, regardless of how many times they have done it. You can really do some soul-searching and reflection at the same time you are having fun! So make sure you use the tips laid out here to give yourself a special experience and a pleasant time.
