Have More Fun On Your Camping Trip With These Tips

By Roxane J. Talisen

Not much beats spending a couple of nights under the stars with your loved ones. Camping is among the greatest pastimes we have and for good reason. You need to know that camping is fun, but you have to think about certain things beforehand. This article will prepare you for a great camping adventure.

Always pack enough of the proper foods. You don't want to take food with you that will spoil easily, no matter the length of time of your trip. Food poisoning will put a damper on your trip and force you to end it quickly. This will make it easier to avoid food poisoning.

You should always bring a spare utility knife when camping. Utility knives are the most diverse tools you can carry, so be sure to carry an additional one just in case it gets lost.

Always have an emergency kit on hand when camping with family, or even staying alone. Always keep the bare basics with you in the kit, and make sure that you have water purification tablets in it as well. Species specific antivenom should be packed to protect against animal bites.

When camping around other campers, turn off your lights at night. Leaving your lights on will waste energy that you may need. This is unnecessary and will only serve to disturb others on the campsite.

Make sure you bring the right things when you go camping. Your whole trip could be ruined if you forget a couple of things. Take the time to create a list that can be checked off while you pack. The most basic requirements are a tent, water, sleeping bag, an all-purpose knife, food, matches and soap.

Use an orange to help prevent bug bites. If you remembered to pack everything but the mosquito repellant, don't despair. Rub this inner peel of the orange over your exposed skin and watch the magic at work. The mosquitoes should stay away from you for hours.

Take along things to do while you are in the wild. Card games are a fun way to pass the time if the weather does not cooperate. This is especially important if children are going to be camping.

When you reach your campsite, pitch your tent on the softest, most level ground you can locate. Pitching your tent on bumpy, rocky ground or on a slope won't make for a very comfortable night's sleep. Make sure you put down a tarp before you set up your tent. This will keep water from entering your tent at night.

Anytime you buy a tent, be sure to practice setting it up and taking it down in your backyard prior to actually camping. This helps you learn to put up your tent and make sure there aren't missing pieces. This can eliminate the frustration of trying to set up your tent in a hurry.

Whenever you camp, what will you do for cooking purposes? You should determine how you plan on cooking your food, so you know what supplies to bring. Open-flame cooking is great fun, but you need to be prepared with the right equipment to take advantage of this.

For those with the right knowledge, there is nothing more enjoyable than camping. You might need some research to understand how to make a good camping trip. You will be a fan of the joys of camping in no time at all with these excellent tips at hand.
