6 Terrible Marathon Mistakes that You should avoid Right Now

By Mark Samitzberg

Maybe you are not actually aware about it but right now, you might be doing some pretty awful mistakes that are limiting your marathon progression. If you've been involved in the marathon sport for quite some time now, then you might already know about them, if not, then I'm glad you came across this article. Pay attention to some of the terrible mistakes that many marathon runners are doing right now and learn how to avoid them:

No.1: Don't set yourself with an unrealistic goal! If you are new to the marathon sport, then be aware that in order to become a champion one day, you will have to be patient. Marathon is a very hard sport to compete in and it takes time and perseverance to become the best, so work your way slowly to the top, don't be in a hurry! If you are having a hard time to finish a marathon race, then start with a half-marathon instead and even in this case, don't expect to finish first, be happy if you are able to, at least, finish the race.

No. 2: Do the right exercise regularly and don't over-exercise yourself, or else you'll be doing more wrong than good! Unfortunately, I won't be able to elaborate in great detail the exercises that you need to do but just be aware that you have to find the right balance and that you should, by no means over-train yourself.

No. 3: Have you included some strength exercises in your marathon training? If not, go change your training plan RIGHT NOW! Strength trainings are very important and every marathoner should be doing them. Why are they so important? Well, the answer to that is very simple; in order to avoid one of the biggest setbacks that affect most runners: Injury! By doing some strength training, you'll be developing stronger bones, muscles and ligaments and those are exactly what you should be doing if you want to reduce any risk of you experiencing an injury.

No. 4: Lack of Belief and Motivation! I know some of you weren't expecting me to get into the mind stuff but I have to talk about it. Having the right state of mind is crucial if you want to become a champion. If before the beginning of a race, you already think that you don't have what it takes to finish the race, then I can assure you that YOU WON'T FINISH THAT RACE! If you don't believe in your own capabilities to achieve your desired goal, it will be a lot harder for you to keep on progressing. You need it to stay motivated.

No. 5: Many marathon runners tend to start their races very rapidly which is a huge mistake. A marathon is 26 miles long; you won't be able to run at such a pace for so long. Like I've said before, be patient and time your run appropriately.

No. 6: Hydration! This is very crucial. If you don't know the best way to stay hydrated during a race, then you might be doing everything else wrong as well. An elite marathon runner knows how to stay hydrated and it's not about drinking water every five minutes or so, it's a lot more different than that!

In order to avoid this article from being too long, I chose not to elaborate too much on the stuffs that I have written above but if you want to have some more information and if you want to find out what you can do to become an elite marathon runner, then keep reading......
