The Way to Use an Inexpensive Sun Shower When You are Camping Out of Your Car

By Phil Barry

When you are camping in the wilderness or at a campsite without a bathing facility, a solar sun shower can be an easy means to clean up. Not only are sun showers economical to acquire, they set up quickly and use up remarkably little packing space.

Solar sun showers are so handy, in fact, that you may decide to utilize one instead of an available campground shower or after additional outside activities, such as going to the beach. A sun shower can be utilized again and again and can be acquired for less than $ 40.

Warming the Shower

If you would like a warm or hot shower, you should prep your solar shower in advance. Fill up the bathing bag with water and then leave it in the sunlight. How long you must leave it in the sun will depend on how warm you like your water, how direct the light is and the outside climate.

The bag is created to heat up the water gradually, and it may actually get quite hot. Some sun showers have a temperature gauge on the bag that shows how hot the water is. If for some reason you experience an overcast day, and the air temperature is not warm, you could have to take a cool shower - however you will feel great afterward!

Hanging the Sun Shower

After the water has heated up to the wanted heat level, you want to suspend the sun shower from a tall object. Trees are frequently used, however your car's roof rack works well also. If there are no tall objects in sight, you can always have another person hold the shower.

The reason you want the shower suspended from a high place is that the shower head must dangle below the bag for gravity to pull the water out and to obtain decent water pressure. If you are just rinsing your feet or bending down, you may not have to place the shower at a high spot.

Just How Long Does It Last?

Four gallon sun showers hold enough water to easily provide three to four showers. By looking at the size of the sack, it might not look so, yet you will most likely be surprised. If in doubt, you can choose to turn the shower spout on and off while showering, so you are able to save water while lathering up, etc

Cleansing Soaps to Use

You do not always have to clean your hair and whole entire body while camping. Some areas are more important than others. That said, after several days of sweaty climbing, a nice full-body shower may make you feel refreshed.

Do not use your shampoo and soap that you routinely use at home. As an alternative, get a biodegradable soap that is much more green. There are even "no-rinse" options, which will certainly not leave any kind of deposit at the campsite. If you do lather up, bear in mind that you do not require a ton of cleansing soap. Using less also means that you don't need as much water to rinse off.
