What To Know About Color Run Races And How To Play A Part In Them?

By Else H. Hackett

Color run races are unique events that move people from all across the U.S., and parts of Canada to travel to participate in. Just like the name suggests, these races will add a bit of color and excitement to participants lives in a way that no other race can. To understand how they do this, we should know how they are they run, who can run in them, and how long they are.

Even though participants start out the race in totally white clothes, they don't stay that way long. These clothes will rapidly be covered in blue, green, yellow, purple, and pink as they barrage each other with balls of non-toxic colored corn-starch during the race. At the end of the race, participants find themselves in the middle of another blast of color that will cover any tiny hint of white than might have been missed.

The races generally carry contestants through historical and cultural areas of each city, and benefit a local area charity organization. This provides participants the option to assist their community as they improve their health, and legally paint the town all the colors of the rainbow.

Young or elderly, short or tall, walking or running, it doesn't matter - anyone can participate in a color run. Registering is as easy as finding the race website, selecting a race location, forming or joining a team, entering the required information form, and paying the registration fee. There is also the opportunity of contributing to a local charity of choice in the area of the race.

If a person wants to have a part in the race, but not run in it, another option available to them is becoming a member of the color bomb squad. Members of the squad are the bomber, rather than the bombed, which gives them a clear strategic advantage over the friends and family they have that might be participating in the race.

The color run usually starts around nine in the morning, and blasts from the color squad quickly follow with another bombing every five minutes until the runners reach the 5k run finish line. Then, the contestants can throw handfuls of dye on one another, and maybe even a few family members of the squad who have it coming, until they feel satisfied. Food, drinks, music, and sponsors are generally located a safe distance from the fray.

So, if you are looking for a health conscious and fun way to spend a day, and help a local charity, sign up for a color run. It's sure to be an exceptional event you'll never forget!
