Benefits Of Buying An IPhone Bike Mount

By Paul Stead

An iPhone bike mount is an extremely useful and fun accessory for cycling enthusiasts. IPhone lovers appreciate their smartphones features and readily available apps. They want to take their smartphone with them wherever they go and now with a bike mount they can do just that. On a cycle, the phone can serve as a trusty sat-nav, a music player and with the wide range of apps available in the iTunes store, it can be turned into a cycle computer.

New cycling applications are being released every day. They are readily available in the iTunes store for download. Offering sophisticated functionality, cyclists are using them to monitor their heart rates, track their activity, plot routes, measure their speed and distance travelled and as mentioned before, as a GPS.

There are apps that can calculate a persons current position, current pace, average pace, time and distance. Others offer the ability to plot routes, capture video, monitor heart rate and track cycling progress against predefined goals. There is even an app that turns the phone into a blinking bike light and one that provides bicycle repair advice.

Whatever the smartphone is used for, there are two prerequisites and that is the phone needs to be positioned securely and in a place where the user can access the controls. It does not help to carry the phone in a bag or armband where the information cannot be accessed easily or safely.

Serious cyclists ride no matter what the weather, rain or shine. Ideally the phone casing should be weather resistant. Even for those cyclists that do not venture out in the rain, those unexpected downpours do happen and a weather-proof case will provide that added peace of mind. The case should also provide a degree of protection from shock and dirt.

The phone case itself should be sleek and not interfere with handling of the bike, especially the brake or gear cables. It should also allow for the positioning of the phone in either landscape or portrait position for enhanced viewing. For safety reasons, it would help if there is a quick release locking mechanism that can be operated with one hand.

Some people try building their own phone holders. These usually turn out to be temporary fixes because they are not sturdy enough to keep the smartphone in place and handle the bicycles vibrations. These initially inexpensive solutions can prove to be expensive in the long run if the phone gets damaged.

The best solution is finding an iPhone bike mount that was built specifically for attaching an iPhone to a bicycle. Considering the benefits the user will get out of the phone and the enjoyment of having all the information at their fingertips, having the right mount makes sense. There is also the added peace of mind knowing that phone is safe, secure and not at any risk of being damaged.
