Exploring The Indiana Fur Company Trade

By Carmella Rolls

Human beings wear clothes to cover their bodies. Different types of clothes are worn in different seasons. Hot weather is characterized by light dressing, while cold weather by heavy dressing. Commonly used materials for clothing include: cotton, silk, wool and pelt. There is an Indiana fur company which deals with processing raw pelt into a product that is highly commercial and on market.

The commercial value of pelt is very high due to its quality in nature. It is also on very high demand in places that experience cold weather all year round. This is because it is used in making warm wear. It is also of higher quality as compared to other materials.

Pelt is generally found in animals, but mammals are the only ones that qualify. Other classes like reptiles and fish have scales in place of pelt. The types of animals range from those bred in the wild to domesticated ones. They include rabbits which are the most common ones, cats and even foxes.

Hunting and trapping supplies are equipped with sharp edges to hook the animals and prevent them from running away. However it is important to note that not all sharp objects can play this role. For the pelt to be acquired, the animal has to die. After demise the skin is then peeled off for processing.

After skinning the animal, the next procedure is to obtain the hair from the skin. A string of procedures are followed in this case. After skinning the animal, the pelt is rinsed in cold water. This serves the purpose of removing blood stains. There are a number of factories that specialize in the trade of processing pelt.

The factories are equipped with the required tools, and chemicals to see to it that the pelt is processed. One of the procedures followed include tanning the pelt using a specific solution, in which the pelt is fully submerged into. This is done every twelve hours for two days.

The pelt goes through several other procedures before being ready for use. The other tanning takes up to one week. Tanning is meant to remove layers of fat under the tissue. The second time is meant to fully cure the skin. They are then dried with plenty of air circulation and sold off.

The biggest disadvantage linked to an Indiana fur company is that animals have to be killed in order for pelt to be obtained. With the rising demand, the ration at which animals are killed may go higher than the animal reproduction rate.
