BJJ And The Health Concerns That Come With It

As far as sports go, BJJ has taken its place among the most enjoyable ones out there. This combat sport is known as one of the many types of martial arts. Those who would like to learn this art and don the BJJ GI will surely love it. It is also a good way to shore up on your self-defense lessons, so you can feel confident when you find yourself facing some bad guys in unsavory situations. You could even probably foil a robbery attempt if you know even a little bit of BJJ. Many people have started learning this art, just for the purpose of safeguarding themselves form thieves when they move into the dangerous zones like thick forests or dark hotels or rooms.

There is no reason why you shouldn't also give this art a shot. But you should expect having to face several advantages and disadvantages when you take up this sport ' or any sport, for that matter. Health considerations have to be factored in when we speak of BJJ. Health risks come with the territory, even with a fun and wonderful sport such as BJJ. It is only wise that you be informed of these risks before you go off and concentrate on learning all you could about this art. After all, the more you know the moment you put on that BJJ GI, the more prepared you will be when you start getting serious with your training. When you are performing this art, you will mainly be using your head to attack the opponent. One need only look at various television shows and some actual matches to find the head getting much of the brunt of the attacks. It is important that you be careful whenever you find yourself having to face an opponent. If you do not learn the art properly or if you perform the art in the wrong manner, you can even lose your sense of hearing. You could be dealing with some ear damage, and swelling is only one of them. The swollen ear cartilage could become separated away from the perichondrium. The perichondrium is a highly important part of the ear. The perichondrium pretty much provides much of the nutrients needed by the ear cartilage.

In some cases, this part of the ear could also have some permanent swelling. If this happens, the condition is a little serious. This condition is referred to as cauliflower ear formation. It is a permanent deformation, one that will last a lifetime. That is why protective gear for the head is provided for in addition to the BJJ GI; it is to protect the ear from having cauliflower ear formation. If you're looking for skull protection, this is your best option. Apart from this, there are also serious health concersns, related to the dermal region.

Muscle strain is also an effect of prolonged performance or practice of BJJ. In fact, it could even lead to strain so severe that not a lot of people could handle it. But it is the skin problems that you should worry about the most. When there is too much of skin to skin contact and rubbing, there will be skin abrasion. When you are not hygienic, your BJJ GI is not laundered properly, and when you use unclean mats for practicing BJJ, this might also lead to problems. Infections such as ringworm, staph, or herpes are also entirely possible, although those are rare occurrences. Do not be carried away by the fun and enjoyment of practicing BJJ. You still have to make sure you understand all the possible health risks involved.
