Why A Head And Neck Restraint Is Important

By Marcy Becker

A head and neck restraint is used to help reduce tension during a strong impact especially over a vehicle crash. They are mainly used in normal cars and race cars. This came to force after a law was put in place to have all vehicles fitted with restraint during manufacture. Head and neck restraints are used to resist top body parts from movement during an impact caused by a collision. During this impact many injuries in the on these parts are caused by the neck trying to contain massive force caused by this impact. Restraints help prevent discomfort and pain and also prevent you from injuries.

After various case studies it is now proved that major injuries during an accident are not caused by how fast the vehicle is moving but how fast the impact is. Therefore restraints are very important in any moving car and to everyone on board. Regular checkup is advised as it is done to the other parts of the car like car engine and the wheel.

Dynamic restraints are the best recommended for you because during an accident they automatically delay thus helping to reduce injury in these parts . Also known as active restraints they offer the best protection when a crash occurs. As for the manual one you may forget to adjust and during a crash they may be useless.

Also known as active restraints, dynamic restraints are the most recommended since they adjust automatically in case of an accident preventing an injury unlike the manual one where in case one fails to adjust they are useless.

Various studies have showed that some of these devices do not work as they are supposed to. To be on the safe side, it is advisable to do a complete lab test or sled test as it is known. The work in the laboratory gives one an assurance that the restraint can be trusted at all times.

Seat belts are very important. One should always use them during any drive. During a crash seat belts hold your entire body from moving but the head moves with the speed. This makes the neck to try pulling the head down. Therefore always tighten your belt whether a small or a long drive. Always mount your seat belts correctly and you are safe. It is also recommended to use mounting instructions as given by the manufacturer.

Padding is a highly advisable venture. The pads are very important safety materials especially when they are thick and able absorb the impact. The material should have the capacity to absorb increased energy that comes with increased speed. The materials for padding should be hard, non-elastic and non-temperature dependant.

Therefore it can be concluded that you will always require head and neck restraint for a safe drive. You should always have a working one. It has also been seen that you should have sled test to make sure everything is working properly.
