Ten tips to improve your putting skills

By Jake Smith

It is so important to focus while playing golf. Putting requires your full attention and can make or break your game. So many golfers become frustrated with golf because they miss too many putt's. In this article you will read about some tips that could improve your score significantly.

Confidence is the key

Long putts are fun but not always the best for improving your score. Start with short putts and repeat until you are confident. Then as you become better increase the distance and difficultly. There is no point jumping into a difficult putt until you have mastered the basics.

Forget The $300 Putter

Find a putter that you are comfortable with. Having an expensive putter doesnt mean you will putt better. Its more important that the length and grip are right for you.

Keep a solid, consistent stroke

Keep your putting stroke consistent and hit the ball as solidly as possible. At first its not so important that the ball goes in the hole. Its more important that you learn to hit the ball firmly.

Develop a routine

Positive thoughts result in many physiological changes that improve your game. Develop a positive routine and avoid distractions.

Keep Your Head Down

You have probably heard this before and its great advice. Keep your head down and dont look up too quickly while putting.

Line up right.

Some golfers don't realise that their bodies are pointing one way and the club face another way. Keep your toes, hips and club face pointing towards the hole.

Get your rhythm.

Putt with a consistent speed and your score will improve.

Don't Copy Other Golfers

You may pick up bad habits from other golfers. Great putting skills takes getting expert advice and then practicing over and over again.

Visualise with your eyes closed.

Putting with your eyes closed can be the most effective way to practice your putting. By taking away your sight you are forced to visualise the putt and you focus more on the way putting feels. This can improve your mind muscle connection and focus.

Practice all the time

No matter how great you are at your long game, if you mess up a putt you will never be a great golfer. This is why putting practice is so important and requires investment. The more you practice the better you will get.

With these simple but useful putting tips, you will be able to start building a lot of trust with yourself. Stay confident and understand that becoming a great putter will take some time and so you need to be patient.
