Getting Eyes On Target With An Archery Peep Sight

By Gary Turner

Going by physical means alone, there is absolutely no way that mankind should have survived its own birth, let alone become an apex predator. Animals of comparable size are larger and stronger. Smaller animals usually have some kind of trick, like venom, to ward off predator. But human beings have no such luck. Even among primates, man is relatively weak and slow, other primates exhibit greater levels of agility and physical strength at levels that no human being can hope to match. But man did match that speed and strength with three things, the ability to innovate, a ruthless drive to turn said innovation into physical, tangible reality, and good old fashioned bloodlust. To negate the physical advantage that the other creatures had, man created tools. The most versatile is and as most survival experts will attest, continues to be the knife. But the bow and arrow has its own place in the history of humanity, and the continued innovation of the bow and arrow led to the archery peep sight.

Optics are any attachment on a weapon that make aiming easier. They are generally used to help center a projectile around a target area. Because human eyesight can be so limited, optics are necessary in certain situations.

Since their main use is to aim, scopes make directing a projectile weapon much easier. Aiming it over a certain area increases the chances of the projectile hitting aforementioned area. Certain optics, like the kind that comes with night vision, can be of great help in low light situation such as a night raid or hunting at night.

Most modern weapons, guns and compound bows, will come with a rail of some sort. As such, most scopes and sights can simply be fitted on to most weapons. In fact, a lot of different gadgets can be equipped on the rails.

Now, while the weapons themselves may or may not be widely available depending on local laws, the accessories, barring silencer and high capacity magazines, are usually easy to obtain. Scopes in particular can be purchased at virtually any sporting goods store or online. At conventions, they can also be sold directly by the manufacturers.

Lots of people take up martial arts as a hobby. Some people practice kendo. Others try their hand at mixed martial arts. Others go shooting on the weekends. But other try archery, both as a meditative exercise and as a physical exercise.

Archery was once a standard part of warfare and for good reasons. Arrows loosed from bows had far greater ranges than swords and also came with considerable stopping power. In fact, the Mongol empire was built largely on archery, with horse mounted archers being so mobile and accurate that other civilizations could not compete, they were a heavenly terror made manifest on Earth by the will of one man. Before them, archers were largely stationary and fired from entrenched positions.

Archers have also found a steady home in fiction. Most writers recognize the tactical advantage of firearms, but for whatever reason, do not want characters actually using such weapons. As such, writers turn to the bow and arrow as a means of having a character be able to attack from a distance while still not using guns.

The greatest thing man was able to dream up was tools. Tools all but insured human dominance over the planet. But tools can also be improved and perfected one.
