Guide On Hog Hunting In Texas

By Patricia Murray

Our ancestors used to hunt animals for food. Nowadays, we have domestication of animals and we can use those for food. However, hunting is still an ongoing activity. It is however only allowed for specific species of animals. Therefore, people who still enjoy it can take part. Discussed below are some of the things you need for hog hunting in Texas.

At times, you are not only going to hunt in the public forest. You may find that the pigs happen to be on private property. In the efforts to go request the landowner to allow you to hunt on their grounds, you will be needed to produce your hunting license. You may need it in other cases like when you visit official chasing grounds or come across law enforcers.

We all prefer different tools to get different jobs done. The same case applies to hunt. Every hunter prefers a certain weapon to put down their targets. With bow hunting, the arrowhead should be broad and sharp. It should also be heavy enough to put a pig down depending on the size. The other options are guns which gives you a bit of distance from your prey.

You should not just bring the one weapon on a hunt. Something like a blade may come in handy while in the field. You may shoot down the pig but as much as it has gone down, it may still be alive. In such a case, you may choose a blade to put the pig out of its misery. This knife should be good enough not to disappoint you in the field.

The same way we are dedicated to picking out an outfit for various occasions, we should have the same dedication when it comes to picking out the hunting attire. Make sure you have a backpack with essentials like a first aid kit or if you are chasing in a group, at least one of you has a backpack. You should also have a piece of clothing that makes it easier for you to identify each other.

First aid is one of those things that people tend to take rather lightly. The one thing that should always be in mind is to carry a first aid kit in case we run into any misfortunes. On the hunt, you may get injured and not necessarily by the wild pigs. You may slide, fall and injure yourself. Without the first aid kit, it will be much harder to help you.

When it comes to moving the pig, it should not be too hectic. You cannot carry it on your back or with your hands. You need rubber gloves to handle the carcass, a big piece of cloth to lay the pig on and some nylon rope this will allow you to efficiently and easily pull the carcass to the point you need to get it.

The one time the pig has authority over the hunter is on the chasing time. The hunter has to wait for a time when they are feeding which is usually during the evenings and early mornings. If you choose to hunt at night you will need night-vision goggles or good lighting.
