For Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Dallas Is Worth Visiting

By Linda Schmidt

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is among the major martial arts that exist. It has very many followers and its sophistication and popularity is continuously growing as years go by. The origin of this art is in Brazil in the 1900s and the Gracie family was the one that developed it. Esai Maeda of the Gracie family is often given credit for its development. The Japanese judo is the basis of this art and this makes it to have a Japanese origin. When in search of professional Brazilian jiu jitsu Dallas should be given priority.

Jiujitsu as a name consists of two parts with dissimilar meanings. This word originated from the Japanese language and when translated into English, it means the gentle art. It is made up of ground fighting and grappling techniques. The name the gentle art befits it totally because it does not put much focus on striking. It is commonly referred to by the abbreviation BJJ.

BJJ is suitable for all kinds of people. People of different genders, ages, physical ability, and color among other factors can practice BJJ without restrictions. Teaching is done by a highly qualified BJJ expert who must be a holder of a black belt in the art. Most black belt holders usually open their own studios to provide classes to people who are interested in learning BJJ.

In BJJ, approximately 8 to 14 years is taken in order to attain black belt status. This is among the longest periods needed for one to acquire a black belt status in any combat art. There is no combat style that requires one to go that long to acquire black belt status. There are a number of sub-statuses called degrees under the black belt status. They start from the first degree up to the 20th degree and beyond.

Each degree requires a different number of years to attain. To attain the highest level of training in this field, one must have commitment and patience because it requires several years. Only someone with a higher rank can award a given black belt degree to another person. The candidate must show ability and skill for them to be graduated from one degree to the next.

Apart from the black belt, there are many other lower ranks in BJJ too. Other belts like the blue, white, green, and red belt exist. The belts are awarded based on the skill level and age of the learner. Beginners are given the white belt because it is ranked lowest. On the contrary, the highest rank in BJJ is represented by the black belt.

A lot of people imagine that all those practicing BJJ participate in competitions. This is actually a misleading fact since most practitioners engage in it for various reasons and not just for competition competing. Some do it to gain self-defense skills, physical fitness, exercise, passing free time, and as a hobby among others. People from a variety of professions such as doctors, lawyers, law enforcement personnel, fire extinguishers, teachers, nurses, and plumbers take classes.

BJJ classes are not provided free of charge. One has to pay some fee for each session they engage in. Payments might also be done every month as fee for registration. In most studios, classes can be modified to suit the tight schedule of busy customers.
