Most of the time, bikers or riders do not pay attention to bike safety tips not until they meet a life-changing accident on the road. Why wait for that happen when we can protect ourselves in the simplest way we can. Truly, accidents are bound to happen but we can be saved from its damaging effects if we know how.

The most obvious but the most neglected of these reminders is the wearing of appropriate gears. These gears are the helmets and protective pads for the elbows and knees. Besides being uncomfortable in wearing them, most riders reason that they are simply added expenses. This is true as quality gears are costly than substandard ones. But which is more costly, purchasing these gears or paying for a surgery due to an accident?

Bike safety accessories are as important as the above-mentioned. The sad thing here is that riders simply see them as additional expenses to avoid. They fail to see the part these materials play in bike safety tips and enjoying the benefits of bike riding. The lighting system is first in importance. The head lights light your pathway as it signals your presence to the motorists driving in the opposite direction. The rear lights, on the other hand, signals your presence to the motorists driving behind you. In conjunction with this, mirrors attached on the handle bars will help you see vehicles coming from your back to avoid collision with them. Moving forward, motorists often complain about the difficulty of estimating the space a biker takes on the road. This is their explanation for crashing against bikers. To answer this, you can attach a neon or reflectorized rod; the length of which should match your front handlebars. Now, there is no reason for motorists not to give you ample road space.

Be sure that all your senses and body parts are awake before you go on bike commuting. Accidents happen when riders are half-awake half asleep on the road. Additionally, using mobile phones keep you from totally focusing on the pathway. Be disciplined not to answer calls and messages while cycling. Keep your ears as well from loud music as sounds on the road are great warning signals. Let motorists notice you by driving defensively. This means you can assert yourself in any road situation. Use hand signals when turning left or right. Motorists cannot read the bikers' minds. Extend your arm either side to turn. Take the whole lane to avoid curb hugging.

Choose for yourself a very safe route as well. Instead of busy streets where motorists drive the paths to their offices, use the inside streets where traffic is much slower. If possible look for wide inside streets where you can bike freely without the danger of getting hit by cars.

These bike safety tips and biking tips would be incomplete if knowledge of appropriate laws is not mentioned. These laws are important to all bikers. Half of the perceived problem is solved when bikers practice them with conviction. Would you wait to lose a body part if not your life before you observe the laws?
