Features Of A Pistol Display Stand

By Claudette Lambert

A pistol display stand is both an aesthetic and a practical unit for housing a gun. Normally they are able to house several weapons, although in some cases they showcase just a single gun. The weapons are often mounted on posts that are adjustable. Security is very important and any unit should have the express purpose of deterring people from being able to remove the gun.

The handgun display unit is specifically suitable for showcasing at events, including exhibitions and fairs. The invention was also designed to be used by individuals in the home as well as by dealers and collectors, either at gun shows or in retail stores.

Over the years, dealers haven't always been so concerned about securing their weapons. In the past they have kept guns on counter tops and on shelves, making them easy to pick up and steal. Eventually they understood that they were selling a valuable product and took steps to make sure it they were better presented and more secure.

Guns can also displayed in holding trays. These were often designed to store two or more weapons, usually with the barrel of the guns resting parallel to each other. This is a method which saves space.

The advent of display stands meant that dealers had the potential to store many more weapons than they were previously able to. And they could also store a variety of different-sized firearms together in the same unit. These stands usually have slots which support the trigger mechanism. In the past these displays were not very secure. Oftentimes all the thief or thieves had to do was break glass and steal the gun or just pick up the display case and make off with it.

The base of an upright unit has to be large enough to support the weight of either one or several guns. Convention dictates that they are made from either wood, plastic or from metal and are in the shape of a rectangle. Ideally, a unit would be adjustable, so that once a weapon has been sold, firearms of different dimensions can be displayed in their place.

Security is one of the greatest concerns when it comes to storing firearms. A stand should clamp the barrel of a firearm in place, making sure it is elevated and cannot topple over. It needs to secure the weapon in such a manner as to provide a deterrent to theft and to anyone wishing to play around with it. What should not be forgotten is that the stand itself needs to be secure. For added security, some will use a cable to hold the display in place, meaning it is attached to a counter or wall by the cable and cannot be moved. That way people can't just walk in and take the stand with the guns still inside.

When choosing a pistol display stand, there are many things to consider, things that go far beyond the price of the unit itself. Those after a sturdy material might choose metal, whereas for aesthetics they could go for wood instead. Then there are the security features of the unit, which may be of even more importance to others. Asking the dealer detailed questions about a stand is probably the best way to go about making a purchasing decision.
